Brother DCP-L2500D problem

I've recently migrated from Linux Mint to Ubuntu 18.04 everything is fine except that for some reason or other my Brother DCP-L2500D printer/ scanner
that worked fine in Linux doesn't work / isn't recognised now :-(
I've tried Simple Scan and Sane neither of them can see my printer.
I'd appreciate it if someone could walk me through this.
