I'm trying to get multiple headless virtual displays that utilize a P4 nvidia card on Ubuntu with no success

0

I have an xorg.conf file:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Layout0"
Screen 0 "Screen0"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
EndSection
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Layout1"
Screen 0 "Screen1"
InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer"
EndSection
<nvidia screen, keyboard, etc....>

I startup the server with:

  • startx -- :0 --layout Layout0

  • startx -- :1 --layout Layout1

glxgears runs successfully on both displays but only the last generated display shows correctly through VNC and ffmpeg. More intense video rendering apps do not run at all against any of the displays except the last generated display. nvidia-smi shows all the spawned xorg instances are running on the gpu.
