Realtek audio no surround Ubuntu 18.10

0

my ALC892 Realtek equipped board running Ubuntu 18.10 outputs only 2 channel audio through the lime plug on the backplate. The CPU does no support onboard HDMI, so I have installed and nVidia graphics card. Is it possible to route 5.1 sound (or 6 channel audio) through the graphics card HDMI? Or alternatively can the onboard video be configured to output 5.1 channel through the back plate plugs (the manual says it can, on Windows!). How about using the onboard HDMI for audio output? I see many persons with similar problems but no recent solutions. Do solutions proposed 5 years ago still work on 18.10?
