Can't install Linux on my laptop (HP envy 15), weird shutdown all the time
My HP laptop came with Windows 8. After several days of self-study, I already know how to reinstall Windows 8 or install windows 7. But I tried to install Linux such as Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint and came across same problem every time.
After a good set-up (turn off safety boot, turn on legacy boot), the selection interface can show up. You know, it's a menu, for Ubuntu, you choose "try it" or " a formal installation", but once I pressed "enter", after 4 seconds, my laptop will suddenly shutdown (blackout).
Just now, I find things more complicated.
1,I have to turn on legacy boot and turn off safety boot all the time. or when start my laptop, it can't find my hard drive system-- windows8.
2, when I tried to install Fedora by usb, at first I press "ESC", then F8 to choose booting options, there are 3:
a:usb hard drive(uefi)--- PNY(my u drive brand name) usb 2.0
b:Notebook hard drive
c:usb hard drive ---- pny usb 2.0
if I choose a, after 5 seconds, it will shut down. if choose c, it goes black.

You don't have to turn on legacy boot, infact if your hdd uses GPT partitions, you can't enable it.

You sure it shuts down or simply Black Screen as you mentioned blackout. Is power and HDD LED on ?

Now things become different and weirder. Days ago, i'm very sure each time it shut down. But today I recreated a Fedora usb installer, it just went black(so I have to shut down by holding the power button).

I had the same trouble with my HP laptop and installing Linux on it. With the way that HP motherboards are it will be tricky.
Are trying to only have Ubuntu run on your computer, or are you trying to dual-boot?
I even couldn't go to the step which let me to choose dual-boot or a fresh installation. It just went black or shut down, gave me no choice.
