Resetting how Google Chrome enumerates its profiles on Windows
I would like to avoid re-installing Chrome completely, and wonder how to "reset" the enumeration of profiles for Google Chrome on Windows.
Here is what I have tried:
- Close all Chrome professes, and delete all the
Profile #folders that I found inC:Users<username>AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser Data
- Create a new profile for Chrome. (Ref: post on opening the "Profile selector").
Before I start the exercise, there had been Profile 1 up to Profile 5 folders alreday. After I tried to create a new profile after deleting all the five existing folders, still, the new profile is stored in Profile 6.
Looking forward to a way to reset the enumeration of profiles without uninstall Chrome and cleaning up the registry items.
Why it matters? Well, here goes a set of alias that I try to keep in sync across my Windows machines and mac:
alias chrome="/Applications/Google\ \Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ \Chrome"
# alias chrome='/mnt/c/Program Files (x86)/Google/Chrome/Application/chrome.exe'
alias chrome_profile='chrome --profile-directory="Guest Profile"'
alias p1='chrome --profile-directory="Profile 1"'
alias p2='chrome --profile-directory="Profile 2"'
alias p3='chrome --profile-directory="Profile 3"'
alias p4='chrome --profile-directory="Profile 4"'
alias p5='chrome --profile-directory="Profile 5"'
alias p6='chrome --profile-directory="Profile 6"'
alias p7='chrome --profile-directory="Profile 7"'
alias p8='chrome --profile-directory="Profile 8"'
Now, on my Windows machine, I can at best get p1 to be assigned to Profile 7, if the enumeration pattern should continue. This brings me trouble with reusing the alias settings across machines.
