Adding user to a group with correct permissions and access to directory still denied

0

I have a directory 'ad' with permissions: drwxrwx---, for devpro devpro

I added devst to devpro group with:

 usermod -a -G devpro devst

If I use id command for devst I get:

  devst

If I use groups command for devst I get:

devst devpro

If I try to cd with devst in 'ad' I get permission denied.

Why this inconsistencies between 'id' and 'groups' commands, and why permission is still denied.

-- Not duplicate:
I want to access the folder by ftp after, so starting a new shell doesn't work

You are testing in the same shell, that's why you get the permission denied. To test you should logout and login again so that the user and group permissions get read. This has nothing to do with the ftp, as you're testing on the shell level.
