Integer validation methods for C# console
$begingroup$
I wrote these methods to handle integer input validation, which can validate the input length and input label as parameters. Any comment? Next I plan to modify it to check both string and integer data types. Should I use some third party library for input validation instead?
private static Int64 GetInput(string input, int validationLength)
{
bool valid = false;
if (validationLength > 0)
{
valid = ValidateLength(input, validationLength);
while (!valid)
{
valid = ValidateLength(input, validationLength);
}
}
Int64 amount = 0;
valid = ValidateNumber($"Enter {input}:", out amount);
while (!valid)
{
valid = ValidateNumber($"Please enter a valid {input}", out amount);
}
return amount;
}
private static bool ValidateNumber(string message, out Int64 amount)
{
Console.WriteLine(message);
return Int64.TryParse(Console.ReadLine(), out amount)
&& amount > 0;
}
private static bool ValidateLength(string message, int validationLength)
{
Console.WriteLine(message);
string input = Console.ReadLine();
if (input.Length == validationLength)
{
return true;
} else
{
return false;
}
}
