how do i determine how much ram a webm video file will require in chrome

0

I have a series of videos that I am using with a webapp I am building. How can I reasonably estimate how much a ram is needed to load the webm file into memory for caching. Is it the same as the disk space required for the webm file/.

  • Doesn't each browser pick it's own video player? And if a browser needs to write temporary files to a disk cache, it would do that, so the ram is probably unrelated to the video file size?

  • this app has potential for ~40 videos. They are for more like animated backgrounds as opposed to a video that you'd think of watching. We've had to pre-load to help get an immediate view with no lag but as we get to the higher configurations (more videos) chrome sucks up all the memory and without intervention the app will die. we are on a 4gb machine. it's a kiosk oriented application. i'd like to be able to do some math to help design the appropriate caching strategy.
