touchpad cursor blocks after upgrading to 18.04

Multi tool use
I have updated to linux 18.04 (it's a pop os machine, which was based on the previous version of ubuntu) using do-release-upgrade
and now the touchpad cursor freezes if I move it a bit quickly.
That is, if I move it slowly and steady it works, but as soon as I accelerate a little bit it blocks, and then I have to raise my finger and put it down once again. All this is really annoying.
The usb mouse works ok, on the other hand.
