Android Studio for Mac - Backwards Compatability
I am having issues with setting up my environment for developing Android mobile apps. I am trying to follow along with the book, Head First Android Development: A Brain-Friendly Guide 2nd Edition, and the Mac version does not allow me to uncheck the backwards compatibility (AppCombat) option.
Everytime I create a new project in Android Studio, it automatically uses backwards compatibility and does not even give me an option to uncheck it.
I only get two screens when creating a new project:
1. Choose an activity (which it doesn't even let me name my activity)
2. Configure your project (which it doesn't allow me to uncheck backwards compatibility) --> here's a screenshot
I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you so much!

The screen you're showing is setting up the project. An activity is created inside of the project.
