how to properly mount cifs share with password

0

I work in windows company, and have to access windows shares.

I can enter into thunar/nemo path:

smb://someserver.whatever/serverDirectories

I'm prompted for user/pass and it works. Until entry disappears from left pane, and I have to do it again + I really don't know how to access these from terminal, which is a pain.

Or I can add record into /etc/fstab

//someserver.whatever/directories /media/whatever cifs noauto,user,rw,file_mode=0117,dir_mode=0117,credentials=/media/.fileWithPass,sec=ntlmv2

where .fileWithPass contains credentials

username=reallyHorribleApproach
password=I'mProfessionallyAshamed
domain=someDomain

OK, it's probably not superb issue, considering that this file is owned by root, and whoever can read it, already infiltrated my system with encrypted drive, but even if it's true (which it probably isn't), it really hurts just to look at it.

questions:

  1. how to access shares created by nautilus/nemo/...

  2. How to create proper /etc/fstab record which does not require neither plaintext password store somewhere nor require me to enter it (keepassxc/secret-tool usage, if possible, is OK)

Thanks!
