Issue assigning numbers to an array
$begingroup$
I have to write a program for AP computer sci. that has an original array and then stems off into the evenList, oddList, and negativeList arrays. It then prints the numbers from those arrays. I attempted to write and troubleshoot it but it set the array values to zero when I tested it. What is the issue? I'm a beginner so I cannot use parse, arraylist, unusual imports, or any non-beginner things... sorry
import java.util.Scanner;
public class NumberSorter
{
public static void main(String args)
{
Scanner reader = new Scanner (System.in); // scanner instantiated
int originalList = new int[10]; // original list of 10 int
int evenList = new int[10]; // arrays for even, odd, and negative numbers
int oddList = new int[10];
int negativeList = new int[10];
for (int i = 0; i < originalList.length; i++) // asks user for integer input for the 10 items in the array
{
System.out.println("Please enter an integer");
originalList[i] = reader.nextInt();
}
int countForEven = 0;
int countForOdd = 0;
int countForNeg = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < originalList.length; i++)
{
if (originalList[i] < 0)
{
negativeList[countForNeg] = originalList[i];
countForNeg++;
System.out.println("test: " + negativeList[i]);
}
else if (originalList[i] % 2 == 0 )
{
evenList[countForEven] = originalList[i];
countForEven++;
System.out.println("test: " + evenList[i]);
}
else if (originalList[i] % 2 != 0)
{
oddList[i] = originalList[i];
countForOdd++;
System.out.println("test: " + oddList[i]);
}
}
